In 2017 Mike Simms, Natural Sciences Curator at National Museums NI, began a collaboration with Julian Friers, renowned wildlife artist, to depict and describe some of the diverse range of animals that once lived here but are now gone – or almost so. This talk will describe how this unique project came about, relate some of the stories behind the fossil evidence for the existence of these animals in Ireland, and Scotland, and showcase many of Julian’s outstanding paintings.
